Appreciation

November 7, 2018

As the days are getting shorter, the darkness ensues, and instead of allowing myself to go into the habitual doom and gloom that I refer to as November, I’m choosing something different this year. Light. I’ve decided that no matter how dark it gets in the external environment, I consistently want to choose a bright internal landscape. For a moment, close your eyes, get still and centered.  Then ask yourself, “What possibilities have I not considered that will help me stay positive and bright this winter?” What I got was appreciation.  Appreciation is the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something. Read that a few more times and notice how you feel in your body when you really take it in.  If it’s a not so great feeling, good to notice, keep reading it over and over until your feelings start to shift.  It is really warms you up and softens your space, remember that feeling and remember to acknowledge it daily. Choosing a practice of appreciation is allowing our thoughts to stay positive, seeing circumstances with loving eyes, and staying focused on the momentum of rising above. Use appreciation in your daily routine by asking… What do I appreciate about myself?   What am I appreciating in each of my relationships?   What do I appreciate in my most prickly situation or relationship?  What can I appreciate about the days getting darker?  If this seems like something you don’t have time for, I’ve been there and love that excuse too!  Then I remember it is my choice to make time for myself and how I want to feel as I both start the day and move through the day.  If you can make the way you want to feel in your life a priority then this really takes no time at all.  The time you spend reflecting will create a more uplifted perspective as you move through the day, and the week, and may eradicate the negative downward spiral that is indeed a time suck. So, what reality do you choose to create this month?  And next month?  And next year?  Pick up a journal and make this your brightest and happiest winter EVER!! In Health and Healing,
