Stillness

Stillness

Stillness is defined by the absence of movement or sound.

In relation to us as humans, stillness is a quality that describes a way of being.

For most of society, we have forgotten the importance and benefits of stillness and instead, have chosen the opposite is more desirable.  The more you do, the more validated you feel.  The busier you are, the more accomplished you become.  We may even measure our self worth on what we’ve achieved each day, week or month.

Another way…

Is stillness or the idea of it uncomfortable for you?  If it is, then it’s exactly what you need!  You can keep choosing the distractions (food, drink, errands, this, that, and another) over yourself every single time.  It’s all good!

If you do want to choose another way the first step is asking yourself, “What possibilities are available to me when I choose stillness?”

Why practice stillness?

Stillness allows you to get in tune with you, all of you.  The physical body may be feeling pain or discomfort somewhere.  This is how your spirit communicates with you.  It’s trying to tell you something.   You get to choose to listen or not, and the easiest way to listen is to get still and feel and ask, “Hey body, what are you trying to tell me here?”

And the key with this and any question you ask, is to ask the question and then don’t expect or wait for an answer.  The answer will show up.  Will you be listening?   The answer may come immediately, tomorrow, or maybe next year, but you have to be willing to not get an answer.

As you choose to practice stillness, you gain more opportunities to listen to your body and your spirit.

Stillness also allows for softening.

Try this…Take 30 seconds to one minute and BE still.

Notice how when you slow down, breath and tune in, something inside of you softens.  This is important for your health.

Because of our do, do, do society we have found ourselves in a constant state of fight or flight (this means the sympathetic nervous system is going) and spend very limited time in our rest and digest state (this is the parasympathetic nervous system).  Maintaining balance in all of our bodies systems is what will shift your health.

In practicing stillness you are on the path to bringing this much needed balance back to the body, starting with the nervous system.  One small shift or choice leads to another and to another, until one day you notice you are different!

My favorite thing about stillness, is that every single time I get still and listen, something shifts.  I hear something so profound to apply to my life, I feel something that I needed to feel so I can acknowledge it or I see something clearly that I wasn’t able to see because I was choosing distraction instead of stillness.

Stillness doesn’t mean you have to sit down and meditate every single day, although I highly recommend you do, it means what ever resonates with you right now.  (If you are interested in meditation click here:  http://www.inmyflow.com/spark-your-spirituality/)

So ask, “What does stillness look like for me right now?”  “What does it look like for me today?”

This works!!!  Enjoy this simple step to your growth and awareness!  And remember you are always in choice.  Big LOVE.
