Making Spirits Bright

December 15, 2015

I had an AHA moment this morning!  A super shifter, is what I like to call it, because it shifted my beliefs in a super-b new way.  It’s not just something I put on paper or thought about, but something more visceral – it was like more of my spirit woke up!   My kids slept in and we had less than 30 minutes to get out the door before school started. I was putting on my daughters socks and shoes (which is frustrating in itself, because she is 5!) and she does the all too often kick, flip out, whine because there is a BUMP in her sock. Typically, I would respond with frustration equal to hers.   Today, something different happened.   I thought, “What can I do to make her feel loved right in this moment?”   That was it!  I didn’t do or say anything different, I was simply moving from a place of love.  We continued to make it out of the door smoothly and everyone was excited to start the day.   Then I got to thinking…….I want more of this.  I want to make my kids feel loved AND like they belong all the time.  Of course I do, I’m there mom, that’s what all mom’s want right? Right, but sometimes I forget.  Sometimes I feel like they are intentionally making my life difficult and pushing all the bull shit buttons just to see me squirm.  But this morning I was able to make it 100% about creating love for them and not at all about me.  It’s never been about me (although my ego would disagree).  It’s always been about loving them. I really want to implement coming from love not just when it’s easy, but in times of frustration when I’ve asked them 5 times to get their coats on, when there is back talk, and 100% of the time while they are whining or arguing with me or with each other. I’m realizing that these behaviors are all driven by their ego.  They are fear based behaviors and emotions that can simply be eradicated with LOVE.  LOVE will triumph and the ego will dissolve, again and again, we just have to remember.   So, my intention for the day is to live from a space of love, to invite love into my day and into my life, over and over again.   And I encourage you to do the same.  Leave a note below and share what transpires in your life.   It really is true……..ALL WE NEED IS LOVE!   In health and healing,   kellysignature

This is such a great reminder. I find myself getting so caught up in the craziness of life and schedules, at times I miss opportunities to show my kids love and kindness throughout the day. When I am tense and rushing my kids out the door, they absorb my bad energy, and it snowballs into all out anger from everyone. This post is spot on – love begets love! I will do my best day after day to keep this in mind. Thanks Kelly!

Another great post Kelly. You may want to check out “The Whole Brain Child” by Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson. They would say that you were able to connect with your child’s “downstairs brain”- the feeling, emotional side. What we tend to try to do is communicate with the “upstairs brain”- the thinking, rational part. If kids are over-aroused and you try to talk and rationalize with them they will have meltdowns and become more upset.
